LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's track and field team opened its 2018-19 season on Saturday at the Diplomat Open, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College.
Gettysburg's top field finisher was freshman
Fredrick Tubula (Narok, Pa./Friends Select School), who placed third in a field of 13 in the triple jump (42' 8 ¾"), which ranks fourth best in school history. Freshman
Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed fourth out of 18 competitors in the high jump with a height of 6' 0 ¾" (seventh best in school history), while fellow classmate
Matthew Weller (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) tied 12th (5' 8 ¾"). Sophomore
Nicholas Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey) claimed the 6th spot in the pole vault with 12' 5 ½" (ties 10th best in school history). Freshman
Scott McGrath (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) finished eighth out of 27 competitors in the long jump (19'6") and Palazzolo took 10th (19' 3 ½").
On the track, senior
Thad Cwiklinski (Glen Rock, Pa./York Catholic) placed ninth in a field of 36 in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.13. Sophomore
Matt Simmers (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) placed 12th out of 21 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.69. The 4x400-meter relay team placed 12th, finishing in 3:44.10.
Gettysburg is off from competition until Jan. 25, when it travels back to Lancaster for the Franklin & Marshall Little Dip Invitational.
