Volleyball Concludes play at Seven Sisters Championship

Hardy, Voorhes Named to All-Tournament Team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Pioneers concluded play at the 2014 Seven Sisters Tournament, hosted by Vassar College, with a split Sunday. Smith dropped their morning match against Bryn Mawr College by a score of 0-3 before returning the favor to Mount Holyoke College in the afternoon with a 3-0 sweep.

Against Bryn Mawr (6-4), the Pioneers fell by the set scores of 20-25, 23-25, 20-25. First-year Dayra Diaz Marquez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/New Mission) hit .179 with eight kills and 10 digs, while sophomore Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif./Ramona) added 14 digs and an ace.

In the final match of the tournament against Mount Holyoke, Smith (5-5) swept all three sets, 25-15, 26-24, 25-11. Sophomore Allison Hardy (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) had seven kills and 14 digs, while Voorhes finished with a team-high 17 digs. Junior outside hitter/setter Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif./Cypress) tallied 23 assists and 47 total on the day.

Smith's Hardy and Voorhes were named to the All-Tournament team, with Wellesley's Sydney Carfagnor taking tournament MVP honors after leading the Blue to a second-consecutive Seven Sisters Championship.

The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday evening, opening New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 7 p.m. match at Clark University.
