No. 19 Franklin & Marshall sinks Blue Jays in opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 19 Franklin & Marshall flexed its muscle Saturday afternoon opening up a 25-point halftime lead and defeating the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team in its season opener, 80-49, at the Mayser Center.

The Blue Jays fall into Sunday's consolation game of the F&M Rotary Tip-Off Tournament, where they'll face Manhattanville at 2 p.m.

Senior forward Matt Ziegler led the visitors with 10 points. Matt Lapkowicz and Paul Lecurieux-Lafayette each had eight. Franklin & Marshall (1-0) got a game-high 24 points and five 3-pointers from Brandon Federici, while Cedric Moune added a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds, and Hunter Eggers 15 points.

Elizabethtown (0-1) took an early 2-0 lead on a Ziegler jumper, but the Diplomats answered with a 10-0 run and never looked back. F&M shot 48.3% for the game (29-of-60) and knocked down seven treys. The Blue Jays struggled to get things going offensively, shooting just 33.3%. They also committed 21 turnovers and were outrebounded 41-33.
