Taking the mat for the first time with a national ranking, the Muhlenberg wrestling team looked the part, cruising to a pair of wins in a home tri-match.

The Mules (8-2), who are ranked 18th in the latest Division III poll, defeated Montclair State, 46-9, and King's, 40-9.

Senior Josh Hickey (133), freshman Jackson Karrat (149), sophomore Yonbüe Tanco (157) and senior Scott Schaeffer (HWT) each recorded a pair of wins on a day when Muhlenberg rested many of its regulars and showcased its depth.

Hickey pinned both of his opponents, while Karrat scored a technical fall and a major decision, coming back from a 3-2 deficit after the first period to defeat his King's opponent, 16-7.

Tanco also came back after being taken down early to notch a first-period pin against King's. He netted his first career technical fall in the Montclair State match.

Schaeffer (pictured above) needed only 77 seconds to finish off his 25th career pin.

The Mules' two 184-pounders also flattened their opponents in short order, sophomore Scott Horry in a career-best 26 seconds against Montclair and senior Mike Cannon in 1:38 against King's.

The most entertaining match of the day came at 174 against King's. Senior Brian Jamison trailed 7-0 after only 26 seconds but worked his way back, scoring three takedowns in the first period to close to within 9-7 and moving in front with a pair of second-period takedowns. He added two more takedowns in the third period to finish off the 17-11 decision.
