SWARTHMORE, Pa.—To open Centennial Conference play, Swarthmore College softball split a home doubleheader with Dickinson College on Saturday.
The Garnet (11-5, 1-1) lost the first game to the Red Devils (10-8, 1-1), 6-4, and won the second, 3-2.
Game One: Swarthmore 4, Dickinson 6
Swarthmore had a 4-1 lead after the second inning as senior
Frankie Ponziani, junior
Marit Vike and sophomore
Gabriella Natoli each drove in a run. Natoli is currently second on the team with 13 RBIs.
The Garnet held that lead until the sixth inning, but the Red Devils scored four runs.
Sophomore
Emilie Morse had two hits in the loss, and her average is now .467 this season.
Game Two: Swarthmore 3, Dickinson 2
The Garnet had a comeback of their own in the second game, trailing 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth.
Freshman
Victoria Overbeck's single scoring sophomore
Kalli Segel in the second inning resulted in Swarthmore's only run in the early innings.
Segel hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game, scoring sophomore
Kennedy Kings, whose three hits on Saturday leave her average at an even .500 in 2018.
Sophomore
Marisa Mancini was the next batter, and she reached base on an error that allowed Morse to score the go-ahead run.
Swarthmore freshman
Lucy Decker pitched a complete game, striking out five, walking two and allowing just five hits. She's 5-1 this year.
Haverford will welcome Swarthmore on Tuesday for another Centennial Conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
