Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Pride

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse had three players record hat tricks in an 18-5 win over Widener University on Tuesday night.

The Garnet (5-1) scored in the first 20 seconds of Tuesday's game on the first of Elizabeth Wainwright's three goals. Widener equalized the score five minutes later and Swarthmore head coach Karen Borbee took a timeout to get Swarthmore focused again. With a fire lit under them, the Garnet closed out the first half on a 9-1 run. Swarthmore piled on three of those goals in the final 80 seconds of the half.

Two quick goals in the second half had Swarthmore ahead 12-2 with 28 minutes left. Widener cut into that 10-goal lead once, but the Garnet recovered that spread on Silveira's second of the night. For the final 25 minutes, the 10-goal running clock rule was enforced.

Wainwright, Silveira and Sophie Peipher all netted three goals in the win. Mackenzie Frost, Taylor Chiang and Kathryn Restrepo each had a brace. Frost scored both of hers off free-position shots.Restrepo added three assists for a five-point night. Bella Levine, Sydnie Schwarz and Tess Wild also scored.

Wild dominated on the draw, coming away with a game-high eight draw controls. Peipher and Frost each added four more wins on the draw.

Betsy Cohen recorded three saves and Lily Fornof had two.

Next up for Swarthmore is a 3 p.m. showdown with Ursinus College on Saturday at home.
