KINGS POINT, N.Y. (January 22, 2019) – Freshman
Robert Gennat earned a 9-7 come-from-behind victory over Max Sims at 174 to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology wrestling team over the United States Merchant Marine Academy 24-21 Tuesday evening in a Centennial Conference dual at the Liebertz Gymnasium.
Gennat engaged in a back-and-forth affair with Sims that was not decided until the final minute of the third period. The Sparta, New Jersey native's victory earned three points toward Stevens' team total and secured the team's ninth dual win of the season. The Ducks improved to 3-0 in conference duals, extending their Centennial dual winning streak to 24. Stevens has topped USMMA in each of the last four meetings, with two of the last three meetings being decided by three points or less.
"As the match went on, I felt my opponent get tired and start to break," Gennat said. "I kept faith in my conditioning and was able to get to my offense."
"It's great to get a win against a tough conference opponent," he continued. "But we need to get back to work and continue to improve to reach our goals [for] the rest of the season."

Akhil Vega and senior
Joey Borai earned decision victories at 125 and 133, respectively, as the Ducks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first two matches. Borai pulled ahead of Kimo Dial in the final 10 seconds of the match.
