COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Juniors Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) and freshman Sean Thompson (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) each placed among the top four to lead the Gettysburg College wrestling team at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl Saturday.
 
Triandafilou finished runner-up in the heavyweight bracket for the second consecutive weekend. He opened with a pin with 42 seconds left in his first bout before tacking on 3-2 and 5-1 decisions to reach the finals. Triandafilou and Stefanos Karpontinis of York College battled through regulation and needed two overtime sessions to finally settle their feud with the Spartan coming out on top 5-3.
 
One year after finishing as the runner-up at 157 pounds at the Fall Brawl, Kowalski grabbed third-place at 165. He opened with a third-period pin (5:27) and followed up with a 3-1 decision over Joe Scott from Liberty University. Scott won the East Regional title at 165 pounds as a freshman at Washington & Lee University last season. Kowalski was upended by eventual champ Jackson Drum from York in the semifinals, but the Gettysburg junior came right back with a pair of strong showings in the consolation bracket. He beat Liberty's David Cox 9-2 and ended with a 7-2 victory over York's Jesse Rocco.
 
Thompson claimed the 141 title at the Messiah Invitational last Saturday and he began his second weekend of collegiate competition with three consecutive wins. He won his opening match by decision 9-4 and posted a fall (1:46) in his next bout. After a 13-11 shootout with Ryan Erwin of The College of New Jersey, Thompson was handed his first setback of the season in the semis with a 5-3 loss to Kyle Trybus from the Naval Academy Prep School. The Gettysburg first-year rebounded with a 14-0 major decision in his first bout in the consolation bracket. Wyatt Long from Navy ended Thompson's day with a technical fall (16-1) in the third-place match.
 
Senior Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) went 4-2 with all four victories coming by fall at 125. Ogozalek began the day with pins over Parker Velez of Delaware Valley College (5:47) and Jacob Reid of McDaniel College (2:26) before dropping an 11-4 decision to Elizabethtown College's Philip Torresani. Ogozalek pinned teammate Alex Shaffer (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) in 1:06 and posted a 43-second fall for his final win before bowing out in the consolation semis.
 
Sophomore Austin Roskos (Lawrenceville, N.J./Hopewell Valley) and freshman Sal Puglisi (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) each tallied three victories. Roskos jumped out with a pair of wins at 165, beating Scott Rementer of Worcester Polytechnic Institute 3-1 and Jeremy Moseley of Apprentice School 5-4. He added a first-period pin (2:45) over Navy's Josh Goldberg in the consolation bracket. Puglisi bounced back from an opening loss to post a fall (5:55), decision (5-0), and medical forfeit at 174 pounds.
 
Shaffer picked up two wins at 125, logging a 14-12 decision in his opener and scoring a last-second pin against Brandon Miller from Ursinus College. Fellow first-year Robert Garnett (Springfield, Va./Thomas Edison) opened with a pair of decision victories before dropping two close matches at 141 pounds. Freshman Marc Larson (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) advanced to the championship semifinals at 149 pounds on victories by injury default and fall (1:17).
 
Gettysburg competes in the McDaniel College Duals next Sunday at 11 a.m.
