Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Garnet Score 10 In Loss To No. 1 Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse battled against the No. 1 Gettysburg College Bullets on Saturday afternoon and kept things close early on. The Garnet trailed by just one goal 15 minutes into play but ultimately fell by a final score of 20-10.

Swarthmore is only one of two teams to score 10 goals against Gettysburg this year, the other being No. 7 York.

Kathryn Restrepo led the Garnet (9-2, 2-2 Centennial) attack with four goals on four shots, tying her season high in goals this year. Kacy Hafertepe and Sophie Peipher each tallied a pair of goals, and Elizabeth Wainwright and Mackenzie Frost both scored once.

Gettysburg (10-1, 3-1 CC) simply out-numbered Swarthmore when it came to attempted shots, taking 46 attempts to Swarthmore's 18.

Swarthmore played Gettysburg tight on the draw in the first half, claiming nine draw controls to Gettysburg's 10. In the second half, the Bullets won the draw control battle 11-2. Tess Wild snagged 10 of Swarthmore's 11 draw controls.

Gettysburg scored the first two goals of the game before Restrepo put Swarthmore on the board eight minutes in. The teams traded goals over the course of the next seven minutes and after a pair of goals from Hafertepe and a strike from Frost, the Garnet were within one goal, 5-4, with 15:11 left in the first half.

The Bullets out-scored the Garnet 9-3 over the next 20 minutes with all three of those goals coming from Restrepo.

Peipher added a pair of Swarthmore goals in the second half and Wainwright netted her goal with about 15 minutes left. The Garnet, however, couldn't make up any more ground on the defending national champions.

Swarthmore hosts the U19 English National Team in a scrimmage on Wednesday and then faces Dickinson College on the road next Saturday.
