SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Baseball beat Misericordia University 6-1 at Clothier Field on Friday. The Garnet have won seven straight games and remain hopeful that they'll get an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament when the selections are made on Monday.
Swarthmore's final regular season game is at Clothier Field on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Rowan University. Rowan is currently ranked seventh in the country in Division III.
The Garnet (26-12) beat a Cougars (32-11) team on Friday that won its ninth straight MAC Freedom Conference title on Monday. Swarthmore and Misericordia were two of eight participants in the DIII World Series last season. They both won a game in the tournament but did not face one another. Perhaps most importantly, Swarthmore is ranked 11th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and Misericordia is seventh. There are eight regions in DIII, and 64 teams make the NCAA Tournament. Fourteen teams receive an at-large bid.
Senior

Sawyer Lake combined to pitch all nine innings on Friday. Groppe started and went three innings, allowing just two hits and no runs. Lake threw six frames, gave up three hits, struck out five and didn't walk a batter.

Jackson Roberts led Swarthmore with three hits. He had two RBI singles and a double.
Sophomore catcher
Sam Jacobson went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double and a perfect RBI bunt.

The Cougars only scored in the eighth inning, but the Garnet had a 5-0 lead at that point.
Again, Swarthmore takes on No. 7-ranked Rowan at Clothier Field on Saturday at 11 a.m. That will be Swarthmore's last regular season game.
