CHESTER, Pa.—Competing as a team in Pennsylvania for the first time this spring, Swarthmore College Men's Track and Field went to work at Widener University's Danny Curran Invitational over the weekend.
Heavy rainfall adjusted the weekend schedule, bumping discus and shot put from Friday to Sunday. The 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs were still held on a rainy Friday night.
Vaughn Parts ran the 5K in 15:45.33.
In the 1,500-meter run on Saturday,
John Gagnon finished 15th overall and fifth among Division III runners. His time of 4:07.43 is a new personal best.
The Garnet had three top-20 finishes in the 400 with
Zain Hannan finishing fifth (third among D3 runners) with a time of 51.29,
Saadiq Garba finishing 16th (52.72) and
Peter Sayde 20th (53.13).
In the steeplechase, Nick Pugliano completed the course in 10:51.39 to finish fourth.
Over in field events, the Garnet had seven top-10 finishes.
Noah Rosenberg came in sixth in the javelin with a throw of 52.23 meters.
Andrew Jansen threw 38.48m in the hammer throw to take sixth, 13.49m in the shot put for fifth, and 41.12m in the discus for fourth.
Jared Hunt came in sixth in the discus (39.48m) and ninth in shot put (12.89m).
Jerry Qin finished in eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.75m.
Swarthmore competes at Princeton and West Chester next weekend.
