st-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team grabbed a 7-2 win over 23
rd-ranked Bates on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed a 2-1 lead in the match with wins at first and third doubles. Juniors
Joe Cartledge and
Austin Gu picked up the first point of the match with an 8-3 win over Jacob Kauppila and Josh Quijano at first. Sophomore
Vishnu Joshi and junior
Vik Vasan pushed the lead to two when they beat Dylan Davis and Jacob Eisenberg at third. The Bobcats cut the deficit in half with Duane Davis and Ben Eckardt's 8-6 win at second over seniors
Colin Muraika and
Scott Thygesen.
• Junior
Cody Kim dropped just one game as he picked up the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth over Eckardt. Cartledge followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alex Jacobs at sixth to put JHU up 4-1.
• Gu then clinched the win when he beat Jacob Eisenberg 6-0, 6-3 at third. Junior
Aaron Carey pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 6-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at fourth over Alex Kennedy.
• Kauppila earned a point for Bates with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8) win at second over Thygesen. Joshi then wrapped up the win with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Quijano at first.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 7-1 all-time against Bates and has won six straight in the series. This was the largest margin of victory in the series since an 8-1 Blue Jay win on March 21, 2015.
• Thygesen is now tied for 20
th in program history with 43 career doubles wins. Gu moved into 22
nd place in JHU history with 63 career combined wins (30 singles, 33 doubles).

• Hopkins is back in action on Saturday, March 30 with a pair of split squad matches. Hopkins will take on fourth-ranked Emory in Atlanta and will host Ursinus in the Blue Jays' Centennial Conference opener.
