Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Wins Second Straight

The Muhlenberg men's basketball team ended on an 11-0 run to hold off McDaniel, 65-52, and win its second straight Centennial Conference road game.

Freshman Dan Gaines made several key plays down the stretch and led the Mules (4-3, 2-1) with 15 points and 6 assists without a turnover. Junior Matt Gnias added 12 points.

Muhlenberg led from start to finish, opening a 14-point advantage in the first half, but the Green Terror (2-4, 0-3) whittled away at the margin, closing to within one on three different occasions in the second half.

It was 51-49 before Gaines (pictured above) hit a three-pointer from the top of the key with 4:10 to play. McDaniel came back down and hit a three of its own to make the score 54-52.

On the next possession, Gaines made a runner in the lane for a 56-52 lead. After a defensive stop, Gaines fed sophomore Spencer Duke on the right wing for a three that made it 59-52. After another stop, Gaines passed to freshman Dallas Hoffman on the other wing with the shot clock running down for another three, extending the margin to 10.

Freshman Nate Henty Brown provided the final margin by making a three-pointer with less than 40 seconds remaining.

Over the final 3:30, the Mules went 4-for-4 from the field while holding McDaniel to no field goals in four attempts and no offensive rebounds.

Henty Brown tied his career high with 10 rebounds, helping  Muhlenberg to a 40-37 advantage on the glass. Duke scored 8 points, as did senior Erik Werheim.

The Mules, who defeated Haverford 96-58 earlier in the week, have allowed fewer than 60 points in back-to-back CC road wins for the first time in 10 years.
