The Short Story: The seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team and Swarthmore battled to a 2-2 draw on a cool night at Homewood Field Saturday.
Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins grabbed the lead late in the first half when sophomore
Jake Kooyman was taken down inside the box. Senior
Connor Jacobs took the kick and beat Garnet goalie Max Kral in the 43
rd minute to give the Blue Jays the 1-0 lead at the half.
• Swarthmore stepped up the pressure in the second half and tied the game in the 65
th minute. Joey Bradley rang a hard shot off the cross bar and Omri Gal was able to put home the rebound to make it a 1-1 game. The Garnet then took the lead in the 83
rd minute when Bless Tumushabe dribbled down the right side and crossed the ball to Joe Barile, who one-timed it at the far post.
• With time winding down in the game, junior
Pablo Martinez was fouled just inside the box and the Blue Jays earned another penalty kick. This time it was junior
Liam Creedon who took the shot and he converted to draw Hopkins level with 34 ticks on the clock.
• Both teams had several great chances in the two overtimes, but neither team was able to get the game-winner. Hopkins was forced to play in the final seven minutes down a man after Creedon was sent off with a red card.
