BALTIMORE – Freshmen
Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) and
Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) each went 3-0 in a quadrangular hosted by Johns Hopkins University on Saturday inside Goldfarb Gym.
Gettysburg (9-8, 3-5 CC) went 1-2 as a team on Saturday. The Bullets defeated Muhlenberg College 35-9 and lost to the United States Merchant Marine Academy 21-18 and Ursinus College 33-10.
Gettysburg opened the day with a narrow loss to Merchant Marine. The back-and-forth battle began with
Noah Malamut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep) posting an 8-3 victory over Michael Mui at 125 pounds. After a pair of wins by the Mariners, sophomore
Quinn Merrigan (Canton, Mass./Canton) and Kowalski put the Bullets back in front 12-9. Merrigan logged a 7-3 win over Nathan Twito at 149, while Kowalski pinned Erik Beshada at the end of the second round of the 157 bout.
The Bullets remained in front thanks to a 5-1 decision by freshman
Crawford Oswald (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) at 174 pounds. Merchant Marine seized the upperhand with a pin at 184 and a decision at 197. Triandafilou, who entered the day ranked seventh in the nation at heavyweight, scored a 7-2 decision over Brandon Joest.
Gettysburg cruised past Muhlenberg with seven wins. After a forfeit for Malamut at 125, Merrigan and Kowalski recorded a pin and a technical fall (17-2) at 149 and 157, respectively. Oswald and freshman

Ursinus won the first five matches before Kowalski slapped a 5-3 decision on Alex Kramer at 157 pounds. The Bullet first-year improved to 10-4 on the season.
Puca and Triandafilou capped the match against the Bears with victories. Puca improved to 17-9 this season with an 8-3 win over William McGinley, while Triandafilou ran his perfect record to 20-0 with a 14-5 major decision over Zeb Pfeiffer. Triandafilou's winning streak is the longest to start a career at Gettysburg since

A handful of grapplers also competed at the Messiah College Open. Junior
Camden Stoops (East Prospect, Pa./Eastern York) led the contingent with a third-place finish at heavyweight. Stoops won his first two matches with first-period falls before suffering an 11-1 major decision loss to Yousiff Hemida of the University of Maryland. He came right back in the consolation bracket with a pair of decisions over grapplers from Liberty University. The junior is now 24-8 on the season.
Sophomore
