Garnet Score Three In Win Over Seahawks

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer rattled off three goals in a win over the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawks on Wednesday afternoon and only conceded one goal.

With the 3-1 non-conference win Swarthmore got back above .500, improving to 4-3 on the season.

Yuheng Wang, Woojin Shin and Zach Viscusi all scored in the victory.

Wang put Swarthmore on the scoreboard in the 21st minute. Viscusi connected with Wang on a short pass on the left flank. Wang then fired off a shot from a tough angle, finishing on the right side of the net.

The Seahawks caught the Garnet flatfooted two minutes into the second half to even the score.

Swarthmore caught a break in the 75th minute when Francis Eddy Harvey drew a foul inside the box to set up a penalty kick. Woojin Shin lined up to take the PK and caught the Seahawks' goalkeeper diving the wrong direction.

The Garnet added an insurance goal in the 79th minute. Cameron Ricciardi slipped a great ball through the Seahawks' backline to find Viscusi on the run. Viscusi tracked down the pass and finished for his second goal of the season.

Swarthmore out-shot St. Mary's 14-7. Swarthmore also handled the Seahawks' physical style of play well. St. Mary's committed 23 fouls and drew four yellow cards.

Freshman goalkeeper Ian Withy-Berry picked up his first win of the season and made five saves, including two in rapid succession in the 10th minute.

Swarthmore returns to Centennial Conference play on Saturday in a 7 p.m. home game against Muhlenberg College.
