Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Nevins Sets Up Two Goals In 75th Minute Of Win

GETTYSBURG, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer freshman back Harry Nevins registered a pair of helpers in the 75th minute of Saturday's crucial 2-1 road victory over Gettysburg College.

The Garnet improved to 4-3-1 on the year in Centennial Conference play and leap-frogged the Gettysburg Bullets (4-4 Centennial) in the standings with the win. Swarthmore now sits in fifth place in the conference standings with one game to play, and the top five teams in the league make the conference tournament. For the Garnet to hold onto that fifth spot, they need to either beat Haverford on Oct. 27 or have Gettysburg lose or tie to Ursinus on that same day.

Swarthmore tallied seven shots on Saturday to Gettysburg's 11. After a scoreless first half, Gettysburg broke the draw with a goal from the top of the box in the 59th minute.

Swarthmore came up big in the 75th minute. The Garnet evened the count at 1-1 when Nevins intercepted a ball in the midfield, dribbled up into the attacking third and slid a pass over to Joe Barile on the left who finished for his first goal of the year.

Less than a minute later, as Gettysburg's offense was pressuring on the attacking end, Nevins again came up with the stop near the 18 and blasted a booming pass all the way inside the box on the other side of the field. Zach Viscusi gave chase after the ball, it deflected off a defender and began to roll quickly toward the goal, which was unattended. Viscusi sped after the ball and made sure that it found its way home into the back of the net.

Gettysburg attempted five more shots the rest of the way in an effort to equalize the score, but none of them were on goal. Swarthmore goalkeeper Oliver Steinglass finished the night with three saves and the win.

The Garnet wrap up the 2018 regular season at home on Oct. 27 against Haverford with the chance to play in the postseason hanging in the balance.
