Meet Highlights
- Cox earned a pair of wins for Gettysburg in the backstroke events on Saturday. The junior flirted with the first sub-50 time in school history in the 100 back during the morning session, racing out to a 23.88 split in his first 50 yards before ultimately settling at a new personal best 50.19. During the evening heats, Cox turned in another dominating performance in the 200 back, leading from start-to-finish and besting the field by over two seconds at 1:51.76. The junior was just 0.21 short of his PR.
- After finishing second to Swarthmore's Ben Freeman in both the 500 free on Friday night and in the 200 free Saturday morning, Proxmire flew past the Garnet swimmer in the 1650 for an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 16:03.40. The Gettysburg senior stayed well under 30-second splits throughout the race and built a 10-second lead at 1,000 yards. Sophomore Luke McKenna (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford Area) followed his teammate with a runner-up showing and a national qualifying time of 16:15.90. In the 200 free, Proxmire logged a PR of 1:41.71 and finished just 0.05 behind Freeman.
- Cox and Proxmire played major roles in Gettysburg's final dramatic win of the invitational, the former serving as the lead and the latter anchoring the 400 free relay. Cox positioned the Bullets near the top of the field and sophomore Hunter Sundlun (Richmond, Va./Saint Christopher's School) gave his team the lead with a 45.86 split over his 100-yard segment. Freshman Cort Hoblemann (Nashville, Tenn./Owensboro Catholic) kept Gettysburg in front to set up Proxmire for a dramatic finish. The Gettysburg senior held off both Swarthmore and Ursinus over the final 25 yards to pick up the victory in a time of 3:06.25.
- Sundlun produced the second-fastest time in the 100 free despite not competing in the final heat, clocking 46.90 to finish behind Ryan Carkhuff of Ursinus. The Gettysburg sophomore also placed third in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.26.
- McKenna jumped out to an early lead through 100 yards of the 400 IM, but Jonah Kasznay gained the advantage during the backstroke and held off the Gettysburg sophomore for the victory. McKenna finished second at 4:09.73, which marked the fourth-fastest swim in program history. Freshman Luca Tolino (New Market, Md./Oakdale) was right behind his teammate in third place with a time of 4:11.76, good enough for sixth on the school's all-time list.
- Senior Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) turned his best career swim in the 100 fly, finishing third in the race at 51.08 and tying for the sixth spot in program history. The Gettysburg senior produced an outstanding duel with Swarthmore's Jeremy Rockaway in the 200 fly Saturday night with the Garnet swimmer managing to slip his hand to the wall just 0.13 seconds ahead for the win. Pickering finished in 1:53.73.
- Sophomore Declan Sheeran (McLean, Va./McLean) improved his standing in the record books with a pair of third-place finishes in the breaststroke races. His time of 58.56 moved him into a tie for fifth in school history in the 100, while he took over the No. 3 position on the top 10 with a time of 2:09.51 in the 200.
