Track Teams Outstanding in Final Tuneup

The Muhlenberg track and field teams had an outstanding meet at Haverford's Keogh Invitational in their final tuneup for the Centennial Conference Championships.

No one was more outstanding than senior Jaryd Flank, who smashed his own school record in the 3,000 meters. Flank clocked in at 8:20.66, almost 11 seconds better than the 8:31.42 he ran last year in breaking the previous school mark by nearly nine seconds. Entering the weekend, there were only two faster 3,000 times in Division III this season.

Flank came in third to a Haverford alum and a Widener runner, but three Mules won their events - junior Shana Joseph in the 200, and freshmen Rashida Haye (pictured above left) and Christopher Dasaro (pictured above right) in the 60-meter hurdles and 60, respectively. All three set personal bests.

Dasaro led a Mule sweep in the 60, as freshman Michael Rainone also won his heat with a time of 7.33 seconds, which moved him into 10th place on the program's all-time performance list.

Freshman Andrew Braun also made an impressive entry in eighth place on the performance list, clearing 12-11½ in the pole vault - almost a foot higher than his previous best.

In the women's pole vault, senior Claudia Theriault qualified for ECACs with a height of 10-8 in her season debut.

Freshman Matt Polanco cut 15 hundredths of a second off his previous best in the 60-meter hurdles. In all, Muhlenberg had 21 new or improved CC-qualifying marks.
