Smith Scores Five Goals in Victory over Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior Amanda Smith scored five goals, including the go-ahead goal in the second half, leading the Albright women's lacrosse team to an 11-9 non-conference victory over Ursinus on Saturday at Patterson Field.

Albright, which improved to 2-0 on the season, held a 7-5 advantage at halftime but the Bears scored back-to-back goals to tie the score at 7-7 with 15:58 to play in the game.

Mariah Cullen earned the draw control following the Bears game-tying goal and Smith put the Lions ahead to stay at 8-7 on a goal with 15:07 left to play.

Erin Farrell extended the Albright lead to 9-7 on a goal with 12:43 remaining in the contest and Smith pushed the Albright lead to 10-7 with a free-position goal at the 9:36 mark of the second half.

Farrell added her second goal during the 4-0 run that gave the Lions an 11-7 lead with 5:58 to play in the game.

Ursinus, which dropped to 0-1 on the season, scored two goals in the final 1:30 of regulation play.

Jacqui Montague added two goals for Albright, while Cullen had two goals for the second straight game. Danielle Carey added an assist for Albright.

Emily Hutson played the full 60 minutes in goal for the Lions and picked up her second win of the season as she made 11 saves on the afternoon.

Taylor DeBenardi and Kitty Dawson each had two goals for Ursinus. Emma Ebert led Ursinus with four points on one goal and three assists.

The Lions trailed twice during the first half before rallying to take a 7-5 lead into the intermission.

After Smith got the Lions on the board to begin the scoring, Ursinus rallied with two goals to take a 2-1 lead with 21:55 left in the first half.

Cullen scored on a free-position goal at the 20:21 mark of the first half to tie the score at 2-2 and then put the Lions in front with a goal at the 17:43 mark.

Ursinus responded with back-to-back goals to regain the lead at 4-3 with 8:22 left in the first half.

Montague tied the game with her first goal of the game, which sparked a 4-1 run to close the first half.
