WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team won six of the first seven bouts on the way to a 27-15 victory in its Centennial Conference at McDaniel College Friday night.
Gettysburg (3-2, 1-0 CC) raced out to a 7-0 lead with wins by juniors
Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) and
Noah Malamut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep) at 125 and 133, respectively. Ogozalek ran off the final eight points in an 8-2 decision, while Malamut held Charles Wallace scoreless in a 10-0 major decision.
After McDaniel (3-6, 0-1 CC) won its first match by pin, the Bullets ran off four consecutive wins. Junior
Jake Bracken (Chatsworth, Calif./Harvard-Westlake School) erased a 6-2 deficit to win 10-7 at 149 pounds. Freshman
Traken Sutton (Wethersfield, Conn./Loomis Chaffee) completed regulation tied 1-1 with Erik Meyer at 157 pounds, but the Gettysburg grappler scored a quick takedown in sudden victory for a 3-1 decision.
Junior
Quinn Merrigan (Canton, Mass./Canton) and sophomore
Dan Ebert (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) each logged major decisions to push Gettysburg's lead to 21-6. Merrigan dominated after giving up an early takedown to Wade Bishop at 165, scoring three takedowns on the way to an 11-3 win. Ebert surrendered only one point in beating Ronnie Wuest 13-1 at 174 pounds.
McDaniel pulled to 21-15 after a pin and overtime victory in the next two bouts, but sophomore
Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) put the match to rest with his second pin of the season at heavyweight. Triandafilou, ranked fifth in the nation, moved to 10-0 this season with his second-period pin (3:31).
Gettysburg returns to the home mat tomorrow with a three matches against King's College, Keystone College, and Penn College beginning at 1 p.m.
