BETHLEHEM, PA – The visiting Johns Hopkins football team jumped out to a 14-0 lead less than 12 minutes into the game and never looked back in a 47-3 win at Moravian on Saturday afternoon.  The Blue Jays improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference with their 10^th consecutive win over the Greyhounds.  Moravian had its season-opening two-game winning streak snapped and slips to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial as well.
 
Johns Hopkins rolled up 680 yards of total offense, the second-highest single-game total in school history.  The Blue Jays totaled 428 yards passing and 252 rushing; this is the first time in school history that Johns Hopkins has passed for more than 400 yards and rushed for more 250 in one game
 
The Blue Jays jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead as they scored on their first two possessions to grab an early 14-point lead that they would never relinquish.
 
After the Johns Hopkins defense came up with a game-opening stop, the Blue Jay offense needed just eight plays to go 58 yards with junior David Tammaro connecting with senior Stuart Walters for a 12-yard touchdown.
 
The seven-point lead doubled on Hopkins' next possession.  Taking over at their own 32 after a Moravian punt, the Blue Jays went 58 yards on nine plays – with one crucial third-down conversion – and Tammaro polished off the second drive with a screen pass to senior Tyler Messinger, who worked his way all the way across the field for 28 yards and into the end zone to push the lead to 14-0.
 
The 14-point lead held until midway through the second quarter, when Moravian turned a partially blocked punt into a 29-yard field goal by freshman Jon Miller.  The Blue Jays had the Greyhounds in a fourth-and-five from the 26 early in the drive, but sophomore Doug Erney scrambled for eight yards and Miller was good from 29 a short time later to make it 14-3.
 
The 11-point lead held until the final minute of the second quarter, when the Blue Jays used exactly 120 seconds and nine plays to cover 62 yards with Tammaro finding junior Jacob Yohr down the middle from 30 yards out to give Johns Hopkins a 20-3 lead at the half.
 
Hopkins put the game away with two touchdowns in each of the final two quarters to account for the 47-3 final score.
 
Walters capped the opening drive of the second half with his second touchdown of the game and the 40^th of his career as he darted 17 yards over right tackle with 12:19 left in the third to push the lead to 26-3.  A one-yard run by Tammaro on Hopkins' next possession pushed the margin to 33-3, a lead the Blue Jays would carry into the final quarter.
 
Messinger added his second touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter as he took a swing pass from Tammaro and raced 67 yards down the sideline; the play is the longest of Messinger's career.
 
Senior running back Aivory Foster would close out the scoring for Johns Hopkins has he went 22 yards up the middle to polish off a quick three-play, 51-yard drive midway through the final period to account for the 47-3 final score.
 
The Blue Jay defense was just as impressive as the Blue Jay offense as they held the Greyhounds to just the three points and 216 yards of total offense.   The unit forced a pair of Moravian turnovers, including a Michael Curry interception in the end zone, totaled two sacks and nine tackles for losses and held the Greyhounds to just 70 yards in the first half, when it was a two-score game for a majority of that time.
 
Tammaro was 29-of-42 for 420 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 19 yards and the one score.  The 420 yards are just six yards shy of his career high and rank seventh-best in school history.
 
Walters rushed for a team-high 73 yards and the one score and 10 different players had at least one reception, including Messinger, whose three receptions went for a career-high 103 yards and the one score.
 
Junior Mike Kalanik led the Blue Jay defense with seven tackles, including 3.0 for losses and one sack.  Junior Jonah Gundrum accounted for the other sack in the game for Johns Hopkins.
 
Erney was 8-of-14 for 68 yards and Eli Redmond rushed for a team-high 55 yards for Moravian, but the Greyhounds converted just 2-of-14 third-down chances and struggled to extend drives throughout the game.
 
Johns Hopkins will return to action on September 22 when the Blue Jays welcome Dickinson to Homewood Field (1 pm).
