The Muhlenberg men's basketball team staved off a comeback bid from McDaniel in a 71-66 Centennial Conference win.
 
The Mules (9-10, 6-6) led by 17 with 13:41 left in the second half, before the Green Terror tied the game at 60 with just over five and a half minutes remaining. Following an offensive rebound on their next possession, an errant McDaniel (6-13, 2-10) pass was picked up by freshman Dan Gaines who made a layup following a behind-the-back move in the lane to open a game-ending 11-6 run. Gaines – who scored nine points over the game-ending run -  and classmate Nate Henty Brown each converted a pair of free throws in the last five seconds to seal the win.
 
After leading by as many as eight late in the first half, four different Muhlenberg players scored during an 18-7 second-half opening run culminating in a 53-36 lead. McDaniel responded with 24 of the next 34 points to tie the game at 60.
 
The Mules controlled the paint, outscoring the opposition 30-16. Highlighting the post presence was senior Erik Werheim (pictured above), whose eight points all came via layups.
 
Gaines finished with 17 points for the third time in four games for his 16^th double-digit scoring output of the year. He also handed out seven assists, one shy of his career-high.
 
Highlighted by a perfect first half in which three of his five field goals came from beyond the arc, Henty Brown matched a career-high with 21 points to lead the team. He also led the Mules with seven rebounds. Sophomore Michael Morreale returned to the lineup after missing the last four games, finishing with six rebounds.
