Hopkins Wins Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle

The Blue Jays placed four runners in the top-10

Meet Information
• Race: Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle
• Location: Logan Township, NJ • Gloucester County Dream Park
• Date: October 13th
• The Short Story: The top-ranked Johns Hopkins women's cross country team won the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle in dominating fashion as the Blue Jays defeated second-place SUNY Geneseo, which is ranked third in the country, by 51 points. JHU also claimed first in the open race.

Race Highlights
• On a sloppy course, it quickly became a battle between JHU and the Knights. A mile into the race, Samantha Levy, Felicia Koerner, and Ellie Clawson packed up well in 4th-6th and right behind were the runners from SUNY Geneseo in spots 5-9.
• By the 4k mark, Clawson and Levy pulled away and began a back-and-forth battle with eventual winner Emily Forner from Allegheny and Claire Schoen from Misericordia, who eventually finished in second.
• The Blue Jays showed off their depth as Rebecca Grusby, Therese Olshanski and Caelyn Reilly all moved into the top-15 by the 4k mark.
• The last 2k proved to be the difference as Hopkins began to separate with Levy, Clawson and Koerner leading the way in spots 3, 4, and 6 while Grusby and Olshanski moved past more runners to finish in 9th and 11th.
• Despite the slow conditions the Blue Jays won by 51 points and finished with an average time of 21:34 with just a 34-second spread between their top runners. Reilly returned with a 15th place finish and Emily Stahl finished in 18th as JHU's runners all finished within 45-seconds of each other.
• In the open race, Hopkins swept the top nine college spots with assistant coach Maura Linde and alum Caroline Smith finishing 1-2.

Head Coach Bobby Van Allen
"We executed this race as best as we possibly could. We established some early packs and stressed being able to build momentum over the final 2k, a task I think we successfully handled today."
• "We'll continue to work on improving our race plan while putting in the work to get ready for our upcoming championships."
