BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Ursinus College men's golf team opened their 2022-23 season with a sixth-place finish at the Moravian Weyhill Classic on Monday afternoon.
The Bears had five members compete at Saucon Valley Country Club, a par-72 course that stretches over 7,101 yards. Ursinus landed with a team tally of 361 (+73), as the University of Scranton won the Invitational finishing 29-over with a team score of 317. Moravian University (320, +32) finished in second place while Alvernia (330), Delaware Valley (342), and Lebanon Valley (358) finished ahead of the Bears to round out the top-five.
Senior
T.J. Stanton and junior
Evan Coffey led the Bears with a T-20 finish, shooting a 15-over 87. Stanton finished with two birdies and closed out his round with an impressive three-over 39 on the back nine. Meanwhile, Coffey also impressed over his opening round recording a birdie on the par-4 first and followed up later with a birdie on the par-5 12th, closing out the back-nine with a five-over 41.
Junior
Billy Cardino tallied a 29
th-place finish shooting a 93 (+21), while junior
Nick Troha finished just behind with a 22-over 94 for a top-30 finish. Cardino closed out his round with five pars, while Troha earned a birdie on the par-5 9
th hole and finished the back nine with three pars.
Senior
Mike Magargee rounded out the five participants with a 120 (+28) for a 38
th place finish.
The Bears will return to action tomorrow as they host the Ursinus Fall Invitational from the Raven's Claw Golf Course at 1pm.
