SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Swarthmore College Softball split with Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday and now sits at 15-9 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference.
Both games were shutouts as the Shorewomen (12-18, 4-6) won the first 1-0, and the Garnet won the second 2-0.
Game One: Washington 1, Swarthmore 0
Garnet senior
Emily Bowman (3-4) was a part of a pitchers dual as she threw all seven innings while striking out seven and walking none. However, a Washington single to right field in the fifth inning scored the game's only run.
A double in the fourth from sophomore
Kennedy Kings was one of Swarthmore's three hits.
Game Two: Swarthmore 2, Washington 0
Freshman
Lucy Decker stole the show for Swarthmore in the second game, pitching a complete-game shutout and picking up her team-high sixth win of the season.
Senior
Frankie Ponziani was involved in both run-scoring plays for the Garnet. In the third inning, she stole second, and the throw she drew allowed sophomore
Emilie Morse to steal home from third. In the fifth, Ponziani's single drove in Kings.
Kings was the only player in the game with two hits. She now leads the team and is second in the conference with a .439 batting average.
Swarthmore sits in fifth place in the Centennial, one spot from it needs to be to make the league's tournament. The Garnet have six conference games left.
The team is back at home on Saturday against Muhlenberg College (9-17, 3-7) in a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
