Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Ties Record with Eighth Straight

The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team used a strong second half to pull away from FDU-Florham, 15-8, and tie the school record with its eighth straight win.

One of only 10 remaining undefeated teams in Division III, the Mules matched the eight-game run of the 2008 team, which also holds the school record for most wins in a season (10). Muhlenberg will try to break the consecutive wins record when it opens Centennial Conference play at home against Haverford on Wednesday.

Freshman Ethan Grossman led the Mule offense with seven points on three goals and four assists, tying the school record for assists in a game by a freshman, while sophomore Scott Fayan scored four goals for the second straight game. Sophomore Bobby McLoughlin added four points on two goals and two assists.

Muhlenberg had a devil of a time with the Devils (2-2) after scoring the first two goals of the game. FDU netted five of the next six scores to take a 5-3 lead, but goals by sophomore Drew Rafferty (pictured above) and Grossman tied the score at 5-5 by halftime.

The teams traded goals in the first half of the third quarter and were tied 7-7 with four minutes to go in the period before the visiting team took over. The Mules scored the next eight goals to open up a commanding lead.

Senior Joey Hess gave Muhlenberg the lead for good with an unassisted goal at the 3:07 mark.

With 17 seconds left in the quarter, McLoughlin picked up the ground ball from his own saved shot and made good on his second try, extending the lead to 9-7. Sophomore Frankie Feaster won the ensuing faceoff, charged down the field and scored, giving the Mules two goals in a 10-second span for the second game in a row.

Feaster had an outstanding game in the X, winning 17 of 25 faceoffs and picking up 15 ground balls (two short of his career high). He moved into second place on the program's all-time lists in both faceoff wins (252) and ground balls (174).

Two goals by Grossman to start the fourth quarter upped the margin to 12-7, and the Mules put the exclamation point on their record-tying win by scoring three times in 31 seconds near the end of the quarter.

Muhlenberg outshot FDU 31-11 in the second half and 50-21 for the game.

Grossman's seven points gave him 34 for the season – the second-most ever by a Mule freshman.
