Two school records broken, one tied and a host of personal bests highlighted a busy weekend of three meets for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.
The weekend started with two Mules competing in a heptathlon at Kutztown Thursday morning and ended with junior
Corey Mullins running the 5,000 meters at Bucknell late Saturday night. Mullins didn't just run it, he ran it in record time, finishing in 14:42.25 to break the school record of 14:48.02 that had stood since 2009. Mullins
(pictured above left) took 17 seconds off his previous best of 14:59.33.
The majority of Muhlenberg athletes competed a Moravian's Coach P Invitational, where another longstanding record was erased. Freshman
Emily Mitchell broke the 12-year-old record in the long jump, finishing in eighth place at 17-5½. The old mark was 17-4.
Mitchell
(pictured above right) also set a personal best in the triple jump, landing at 33-7½ to move from seventh to a tie for fourth on the Mules' all-time performance list.
Senior
Michael Havkins has been getting closer and closer to school record in the discus the last two years and got
real close at Moravian – he tied it. Havkins' throw of 164-2 matched one of the oldest field records in the Muhlenberg book, set in 1976, and was good for a second-place finish behind a thrower from Lafayette.
Senior
Alex Mitton placed fifth in the javelin at Moravian with a personal-best throw of 188-5. He improved his previous top mark by three feet and moved up to fourth on the performance list. Entering the weekend's competition, there were only 17 better throws in Division III this season.
Entering the performance lists at Moravian were freshmen
Alana Noehrenberg in the high jump (tied for eighth) and
Cameron McCauley in the steeplechase (eighth).
Sophomore
Jason Richwall ran the 5,000 at Bucknell in 15:21.70 to land at No. 10 on the performance list. Senior
Emily Davidson improved her personal best in the 1500 from 4:49.80 to 4:49.38.
ECAC qualifiers, in addition to the athletes mentioned above, included seniors
Shana Joseph (200) and
Jess Voltaggio (javelin) and sophomore
Rashida Haye (high jump)Â for the women and senior
Anthony Calantoni (800), sophomore
Kem Montina (400 hurdles), junior
Erik Berger (discus) and freshman
