GRANTHAM, Pa. – Sophomore Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) remained perfect on the season and in overtime matches in his career by pulling off a decision in overtime to cap Gettysburg's non-conference match at No. 8 Messiah College Thursday night.

Triandafilou's victory was Gettysburg's (9-5) lone win against the powerful Messiah (14-1) lineup, which featured three wrestlers ranked among the top five in the country. The Falcons totaled three pins and three technical falls on the way to a 43-3 win.

Gettysburg's heavyweight turned in his longest bout of the season against Nick Havener. Triandafilou, ranked fifth by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), scored an escape to tie the match in the third period. After a scoreless sudden victory session, the two heavyweights exchanged escapes in the tiebreaker period to set up another extra round.

Sudden victory went scoreless yet again before Triandafilou burst out of Havener's hold to start the second tiebreaker period. The Gettysburg sophomore held Havener down for 10 seconds to begin the second half of the tiebreaker and that clinched the riding time point in a 4-3 decision. Triandafilou improved to 19-0 this season and 14-0 in overtime matches in his career.

The night started with an exciting matchup at 125 which saw Marshall Myers edge junior Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) 5-4. Trailing 2-1 entering the second period, Ogozalek recorded an escape and takedown to jump in front by two. Myers answered in the third period with a takedown and accrued just enough riding time for the winning point.

Gettysburg jumps back in action with a pair of Centennial Conference duals on Saturday. The Bullets face Muhlenberg College and Ursinus College beginning at noon. A small contingent of wrestlers will also compete in the Messiah Open on Saturday at 10 a.m.
