A six-run second inning powered the Muhlenberg softball team to a 7-4 victory in its doubleheader split against Elizabethtown.

The Mules (12-20) unloaded for five hits in the game-clinching inning, starting with a leadoff single by junior
Kristina Qualben. Sophomore
Sarah Schubert drove home the first two runs on a bases-loaded single up the middle, and senior
Karissa Astrella brought home another run on a groundout.

Haley Fedak continued the rally with a RBI single to right, and senior
Hanna Caiola followed with a double. Senior
Amelia Shelley smacked the biggest hit of the inning with a two-out triple to right that scored Caiola and junior
Kristy Selby.

The Blue Jays (16-12) answered with four runs in the third inning, but senior
Hayley Peterson came in and closed the game out with three innings of shutout relief, allowing only two hits and striking out a season-high four batters. Peterson picked up her second save of the season.

Astrella provided an insurance run in the sixth inning with a RBI single after Schubert tripled.

Freshman
Sophie Chong earned her third victory of the season, pitching the first four innings and recording one strikeout.

The Mules were held to only five hits in the nightcap, a 5-0 loss. Astrella collected two of the Mules' hits, finishing the day 4-for-7. Her four hits were all singles, snapping her streak of six straight twin bills with at least one double.

Selby had a hit in each game of the doubleheader, including two in the first game, to raise her season average to a team-best .394. CaiolaÂ
(pictured above) also had a hit in each game and needs five more to reach 100 hits in her career.
