Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Grossman Breaks Records in Men's Lacrosse Finale

Freshman Ethan Grossman broke two scoring records as the Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team dropped its regular-season finale to 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 14-8, in a game that was close for three quarters.

Grossman (pictured above) finished with two goals and two assists, putting his season totals at 37 and 28, respectively. He entered the game one short of the goals mark and tied for first in assists.

The Mules (10-6, 2-6), who will await the announcement of the field for the ECAC Tournament, spent most of the game holding down a Diplomats squad that came in 12th in Division III in scoring. Muhlenberg led 2-1 after one quarter and was tied 5-5 at halftime before scoring only one goal in the first 24 minutes of the second half.

Sophomore Garrett Pope tied his career high of 18 saves for the second straight game.

Freshman Thomas Murphy scored with 4:37 left in the half to give Muhlenberg its final lead, at 5-4. Freshman PJ Lombara netted the Mules' lone goal of the third quarter, scoring off a feed from Grossman on an extra-man opportunity, to make the score 7-6 with eight minutes left in the quarter.

The defense did not allow another goal the rest of the quarter, but the Diplomats (12-3, 6-2) scored the first three goals of the final period to pull away.

Sophomore Frankie Feaster won 14 of 26 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls to move to within six of the Mules' all-time record. Sophomore Michael Altrui led the defense with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Murphy and sophomore Jack Colt recorded a goal and an assist apiece.
