Grapplers Win Twice at McDaniel Duals

Bullets down Alderson-Broaddus, UMBC

Colin Devlin '20 improved to 11-4 this season with a pair of wins at the McDaniel Duals.
WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team opened its dual season with a pair of victories at the McDaniel College Duals on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (2-1) defeated Alderson-Broaddus 26-16 and UMBC 44-3. The Bullets were upended by the University Scranton 26-10.
 
Gettysburg opened with three consecutive wins against Alderson-Broaddus. Junior Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) posted a third-period pin at 125 and classmate Noah Malamut (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep) picked up a 10-8 decision at 133 pounds. Freshman Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) defeated Micah Powell 6-2 at 141.
 
After Alderson-Broaddus scored its first win, sophomore Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) recorded an 11-4 victory at 157. Sophomores Dan Ebert (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and Crawford Oswald (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) put the match out of reach with a technical fall (16-0) and pin at 174 and 184, respectively.
 
The Bullets won nine of the 10 bouts against UMBC, including two forfeits. Freshman Josh Newman (Massapequa, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) earned a 10-5 decision at 133 and Devlin added a 14-5 major decision at 141. A decision by freshman Austin Roskos (Lawrenceville, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and a pin by freshman Tristan Chen (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) gave Gettysburg a 29-0 lead.
 
Oswald notched a 5-1 decision at 184 and freshman Zak Hermann (Levittown, N.Y./Chaminade) polished off the win with a first-period pin at heavyweight.
 
The Bullets won three of the first five matches against Scranton before the Royals secured the win by winning the final five bouts. Malamut and junior Jake Bracken (Chatsworth, Calif./Harvard-Westlake School) accounted for a pair of decisions at 133 and 149, respectively, while Kowalski posted a 12-4 major decision at 157 pounds.
 
Gettysburg returns to action at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Dec. 2-3.
