The Muhlenberg softball team kicked off a three-doubleheader weekend with a pair of losses to a strong Scranton squad that is closing in on 30 wins.
The two starting pitchers scored both Mule runs in the first game. Freshman
Sophie Chong led off the third with a single and went to third on a two-out double by senior
Haley Fedak. Both came in to score on a single by junior
Kristy Selby, who had three hits in the twinbill to raise her average to an even .400.
The Royals (29-7) scored five runs in their first at-bat and went on to win the opener, 9-2.
Fedak tossed a complete-game five-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks in the nightcap, but her opponent limited Muhlenberg to three hits and Scranton completed the sweep with a 2-0 win.
The Mules wrap up the season with a pair of home Centennial Conference doubleheaders, against Washington on Friday and against Gettysburg on Saturday.
