CARLISLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's track and field team opened the outdoor season by winning four events and placing second at the Little Three Meet on Saturday at Dickinson College.
The Bullets finished with a team score of 123 while Dickinson claimed the team title with 142 points. Franklin & Marshall College came in third with a score of 115.
The annual triangular meet – one of the oldest of its kind in Division III – was held for the 41st time on the women's side while the Little Three men's meet was contested the 70th time, with Dickinson (140) edging out Gettysburg (135) for the title.
Seniors
Mikaela Collins (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and
Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) led the way for Gettysburg with a pair of first- and second-place finishes. Collins won the shot put (37-5 1/4) and took second in the discus (113-3) while Meredith prevailed in the long jump (17-3 1/2) and claimed runner-up honors in the triple jump (34-3).
Junior
Sarah Rinehart (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) cruised to a 26-second victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:51.84) while junior
Paige Wesolowski (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional) added a win in the pole vault (9- 1/4).
Three additional Bullets posted second-place showings: senior
Sarah Congdon (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) in the 100-meter hurdles (17.61), senior
Ellery Lyon (Sheldonville, Mass./King Philip) in the javelin (110-8), and sophomore
Abigail Rec (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.06).
Gettysburg continues its season next Saturday at the Ursinus Invitational.
