Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa.--Swarthmore College Men's Tennis opened up the spring season with an indoor doubleheader against Division I University of Delaware and Centennial Conference opponent Muhlenberg College. The Garnet came close to upsetting the Delaware Blue Hens but were edged 4-3. In the nightcap, Swarthmore rolled to a 9-0 win over the Muhlenberg Mules.

Playing under Division I rules with no ad scoring and with one point awarded for doubles, Swarthmore came close to pulling off the upset in singles. Delaware earned the doubles point after winning two of the matches. However, Swarthmore took the top three singles matches and played to a third set in two of the remaining matches.

Mark Fallati won the top flight 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, Thibault Vernier won second singles 6-4, 6-3, and Simon Vernier dropped his first set but rallied to take the match 4-6, 6-3, 5-2. 

Josh Powell lost the first set of fourth singles 7-5 but flipped the score to his advantage in the second set. However, he fell 6-4 in set three.

In sixth singles, freshman Jiung Jung won his first set 6-4 but fell 6-4, 7-6 in the next two.

Swarthmore cruised through doubles 8-0, 8-1, 8-1 to take a 3-0 advantage heading into singles. In the sixth singles spot, freshman Noah Cheng was flawless in his first set, not allowing his opponent a single point. He and Evan Han both won their matches in 6-0, 6-0 fashion.

Swarthmore hosts Washington and Lee University on March 10 before flying out west for Spring Break.
