Gettysburg Falls to Franklin & Marshall

Diplomats top Bullets 4-0

LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg College dropped a 4-0 decision at Franklin & Marshall College in Centennial Conference baseball action on Thursday.

Gettysburg (6-13, 0-3 CC) was held without a hit for the first five innings at Franklin & Marshall (8-8-1, 3-0 CC). Andrew Mascis retired the first 15 batters he faced and did not allow a hit until sophomore Dominick Gasparro (Clarksburg, N.J./Princeton Day School) led off the sixth inning with a single up the middle.

Mascis faced the minimum number of batters through eight innings after picking up double-plays in both the sixth and eighth. Gasparro tallied Gettysburg's only other hit in the ninth inning and the Bullets added another base runner on an error by the shortstop in the inning. Mascis closed the complete-game shutout with a strikeout.

The Diplomats picked up two runs in the second inning on a fielder's choice and an error. Two more came across on RBI singles by J.J. Freeman and Dan Marano in the seventh inning.

Senior Brad DeMartino (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) took the loss despite a strong outing on the mound. DeMartino tossed his second complete-game of the season, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Gettysburg takes on Franklin & Marshall at Kirchhoff Field Friday at 3:30 p.m.
