SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Gettysburg finished among the top-two in three events and the Bullets men's track and field team turned in a solid performance Friday evening at the non-scoring Susquehanna University Indoor Challenge.
For the second week in a row, senior
Ben Taber (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional) turned in the team's top showing, beating out 39 competitors to win the mile. Six days after breaking the school record in the indoor 5,000-meter run, he came within a second of his personal record (PR) with a time of 4:26.38.
Gettysburg also finished second in a pair of relays. In the 4x800, the Bullets took second among five teams while clocking an 8:01.87, which ranks third in school history and was the fastest time at Gettysburg since 1964. Taber led off and was followed by sophomores
Alex Petrecca (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and
Matt Robinson (Taneytown, Md./Pinkerton Academy [N.H.]). Senior
Nathan Wojick (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) anchored the relay, which finished just behind event winner Lebanon Valley College, which was timed at 8:00.68.
Wojick also anchored the 4x400-meter squad, which won its heat with a time of 3:33.09 and took third among 14 teams overall. Senior
Collin Bergey (Zionsville, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led off the event while freshman
Evan Bertonazzi (Richland, N.J./Buena) and sophomore
Thad Cwiklinski (Glen Rock, Pa./York Catholic) ran the second and third legs, respectively.
Bergey also took sixth in a field of 32 in the 400-meter dash, winning his heat and leading a 6-7-8 Bullet finish. He finished in 52.48 and was followed by Wojick, who was seventh in 52.61, and Cwiklinski, who placed eighth in 53.12.
Freshman
Ken Barnes (Edison, N.J./Westminster School [Conn.]) placed seventh in a field of 27 in the long jump with a mark (20-4 1/4) that ranks eighth in school history. In the same event, junior
Ryan Thompson (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) placed ninth in 20-3, ranking him ninth all-time at Gettysburg.
Sophomore
Joe Amadio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) added a seventh-place finish among 19 competitors in the triple jump (41-6) while freshman
Ezekiel Omosanya (Lagos, Nigeria/Northfield Mount Hermon [Mass.]) broke the top-10 in two events, taking ninth in a field of 22 in the 200-meter dash (24.10) and 10th among 37 competitors in the 60-meter dash with a time (7.37) that ranks him seventh in school history.
Robinson was also 12th out of 37 harriers in the 3,000-meter run (9:15.25) while Petrecca was 14th in the same event (9:15.87). In addition, Bertonazzi came in 15th in the 60-dash (7.47).
Several Bullets will compete at the Kutztown University Multi Event on Wednesday.
