Results The New York University wrestling team split its two matches against Long Island University-Post and Hunter College on Saturday, December 6, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
NYU won its first match of the day 32-12 against LIU-Post, before falling to Hunter 19-17. The squad is now 5-1 on the season.
After the win against LIU-Post, the match against Hunter came down to the heavyweight bout with NYU's
Brian Anderson wrestling up a weight class against the Hawks. Anderson fell 6-4 in overtime to give Hunter the overall match victory.
"The Hunter match turned into a bit of a chess match with some guys wrestling out of their normal weight classes," said NYU Senior Assistant Coach Cory Luce. "I am proud of Brian and Patrick (Sheehan) who gave everything they had against much heavier opponents."
Sheehan, normally wrestling at 184 pounds, was bumped up to 197 against Hunter and he dropped a 13-8 decision.

John Messinger won both of his bouts on the day, pinning LIU-Post's Eduardo Ramirez in 3:46 and defeating Jesse Bader of Hunter by a 7-5 decision. The sophomore bumped up to 174 pounds against Hunter after competing at 165 pounds in his first 18 matches this season.
- Garret Marinelli won his only bout of the day by pin, defeating LIU-Post's John Brush in 2:20. He improved to 7-5 on the season.

Matthew Coppola also won his lone bout of the day, earning a major decision against Hunter's William Heine by score of 16-7.
- Seniors Sheehan and
Brandon Jones each went 1-1 on the afternoon, picking up wins against LIU-Post and suffering close losses to Hunter.
"We're going to use the tough loss to Hunter as motivation going forward," explained Luce.
The team will return to the mat on Wednesday, December 10, hosting another tri-match against Yeshiva University and the College of Mount Saint Vincent at Coles. NYU will face Yeshiva at 6pm and Mount Saint Vincent at 8:30 pm. The visiting schools will wrestle each other in the second match, which is slated to begin at 7:15 pm.
