MEDIA, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Cross Country embarked on a new season with Friday evening's Bryn Mawr Invitational at Rose Tree Park.
Swarthmore's top four runners stuck together at a sub-seven-minute mile pace and all finished the 5K in under 21:35. Irina Bukharin's time of 21:19.0 led the way for Swarthmore and was fifth overall. Lilly Price ran in 21:19.6, Xiaojing Zeng ran in 21:20.2 and Kenzie Himelein-Wachowiak ran in 21:23.5.
Sophomores Hannah Gutow and Phoebe Whiteside crossed at 22:30.0 and 22:30.4 respectively. Senior Jillian Haywood, in her first cross country meet, ran in 22:38.2.
Swarthmore hosts its alumna meet at noon on Sept. 9.
