The Short Story: The 11
th-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team is going back to the Centennial Conference title game after a 1-0 win over 19
th-ranked Ursinus Saturday afternoon.
Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins controlled much of the play but it took until 66:40 for the Blue Jays to break through and get on the board. On a restart at the top of the Bears' circle, freshman
Izzy Thompson intercepted an Ursinus pass and went in all alone on goalie Jules Singer. Thompson chipped the ball over a diving Singer and then tapped the ball in at the goal line to send the Blue Jays to the title game.
Â
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 4-22 all-time against Ursinus as the Blue Jays' win two straight for the first time in series history. The Blue Jays are now 2-7 against the Bears in the Centennial Conference Tournament, with both wins coming in the semifinals.
• Hopkins is making its second straight and 10
th Centennial Championship game appearance. The Blue Jays are 2-7 in the title game. JHU will face top-seed and host Franklin & Marshall in the title game. The Dips won last year's title game match-up, 2-1, at Homewood Field.
• The Blue Jays pick up their 16
th win of the season – their most since 2008 and one shy of the school record (1999, 2000).
