Thompson Goal Lifts Johns Hopkins Over Ursinus In Centennial Semifinals

Blue Jays Return to Centennial Conference Title Game

The Basics
• Score: #11 Johns Hopkins-11, #19 Ursinus-0
• Records: JHU (16-2) • UC (12-6)
• Location: Lancaster, PA • Tylus Field
• The Short Story: The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team is going back to the Centennial Conference title game after a 1-0 win over 19th-ranked Ursinus Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Hopkins controlled much of the play but it took until 66:40 for the Blue Jays to break through and get on the board. On a restart at the top of the Bears' circle, freshman Izzy Thompson intercepted an Ursinus pass and went in all alone on goalie Jules Singer. Thompson chipped the ball over a diving Singer and then tapped the ball in at the goal line to send the Blue Jays to the title game.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 4-22 all-time against Ursinus as the Blue Jays' win two straight for the first time in series history. The Blue Jays are now 2-7 against the Bears in the Centennial Conference Tournament, with both wins coming in the semifinals.
• Hopkins is making its second straight and 10th Centennial Championship game appearance. The Blue Jays are 2-7 in the title game. JHU will face top-seed and host Franklin & Marshall in the title game. The Dips won last year's title game match-up, 2-1, at Homewood Field.
• The Blue Jays pick up their 16th win of the season – their most since 2008 and one shy of the school record (1999, 2000).

Inside the Box Score
• Thompson's goal is her team-leading 12th of the season, breaking her tie with Beth Cariello (1990) for most goals by a freshman in program history. Her 12 goals are also the most by a Blue Jay since Alexa Lantiere scored 13 in 2013.
• Junior Jodie Baris finished with a pair of saves in earning her eighth shutout of the season. Singer finished with eight saves in the loss for the Bears.
• Hopkins outshot Ursinus, 19-4, and had an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Up Next
• Hopkins will take on 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall in the Centennial Conference championship game on Sunday, November 4. Game time at Tylus Field is slated for 1:00 pm.
