WESTMINSTER, Md.—The reigning Centennial Conference Champion Swarthmore College Men's Swimming, the 14th-ranked team in the nation by the CSCAA, opened the 2019-20 campaign with an 80-15 throttling of the McDaniel College Green Terror.
The Garnet had the top finisher in every event on Saturday. Swarthmore's B squad led off with a win in the 200 medley relay after the A team got disqualified.
In the 400 IM, freshman
Alex Hatzikos impressed with a time of 4:24.14. Hatzikos also swam away with the title in the 100 back with a time of 55.93 seconds.
Jeffrey Mun swam the 200 free in 1:46.28 to take first place.
Sophomore All-American
Alec Lawless earned his first win of the day in the 50-yard freestyle sprint, darting back to the wall in 21.64 seconds. Lawless would later win the 100 free as well in 48.15.
Freshman Lonnie Chen led a sweep of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.05. All-American
Jeremy Rockaway swam to first in the 100 fly (52.50).
First-year Paul Freeman broke the five-minute mark in the 500 free en route to a first-place finish (4:55.40). After finishing one-two-three in the 500, Swarthmore ended the individual heats with another sweep, this time in the 100 IM.
Horace Shew's 53.32 was the top mark.
Swarthmore returns to action on Friday against Franklin & Marshall College on the campus of Bryn Mawr College.
