Harkins Scores Career-High 29 In Win Over Ospreys

GALLOWAY, N.J.—Sophomore guard Conor Harkins poured in a career-high 29 points to open 2019 for Swarthmore College Men's Basketball at Stockton University. Swarthmore, ranked 23rd nationally, handled the Stockton Ospreys 73-65 on the road on Wednesday night.

Hawkins' career night came off of an 8-of-13 performance from 3-point range, a remarkable 61.5 percent from deep. He shot 9-for-14 overall (64.2 percent) and had six rebounds to boot.

Ryan Ingram and Cam Wiley each added 11 points, and Zac O'Dell pitched in 10.

Defensively, junior Nate Shafer blocked four Stockton shots to give him 22 on the year.

Swarthmore started out slowly on Wednesday and trailed by 10 points midway through the first half. The Garnet then went on a 13-3 run that included an O'Dell dunk and the game was tied with 2:29 to play in the half. Swarthmore entered halftime trailing 34-33.

Hawkins, who hit a jump shot with two seconds left in the first half, knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to kick off the second half. His personal 7-0 run across the halves plus a layup from Shafer gave Swarthmore its largest lead up to that point, 41-34 with 17:43 to go.

Swarthmore's next four field goals came from behind the 3-point line until a 2-pointer from Colin Shaw with 11:22 to play made it 55-41 Garnet.

Swarthmore led by as many as 16 points with 4:31 to play following a jumper by Cam Wiley.

The Garnet return home on Saturday and will face nearby Eastern University in a 1 p.m non-conference game.
