BALTIMORE – The Gettysburg College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 17 Johns Hopkins University in a Centennial Conference meeting on Friday.
Gettysburg (2-2, 0-2 CC) suffered a sweep in doubles at the hands of Johns Hopkins (7-3, 3-0 CC). Senior
Christian Deschapelles (Riverside, Conn./King School) and junior
Andrew Corwin (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) dropped an 8-3 decision at the third flight.
The Blue Jays clinched the team win with straight-set victories at the top three singles flights and won a pair of pro-sets at fourth and fifth singles. Freshman
Harrison Brown (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) prevented the shutout with an 8-6 victory over Nathan Safran at No. 6. Brown jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for Gettysburg's first singles victory against the 11-time defending conference champs since 2005.
Gettysburg travels to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a conference match beginning at 3 p.m.
