Despite a milestone day for junior
Maya Illovsky, the Muhlenberg volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to teams from New York, 3-1 to Vassar and 3-2 to Morrisville State.
Illovsky
(pictured above) totaled 51 digs in the two matches, raising her career total to 1,010. She is the 14th player in team history to reach 1,000, but just the second to get there as a junior.Â
Muhlenberg won the first set against Vassar, a team that is receiving votes in the Division III poll, and had four set points to take a 2-0 lead, but the Brewers pulled out a 28-26 win and went on to take the next two sets.
Sophomore
Megan Ray led the attack with a career-high 17 kills in only 30 attempts. Junior
Tara Register added 13 kills.
In their second match, the Mules (1-5) came from behind twice to force a fifth set for the third time this season. The fifth set was tied 8-8 before Morrisville scored seven of the final eight points.
Muhlenberg trailed 16-8 in the fourth set and was in danger of losing in four, but five straight service points by Illovsky closed the gap. A 5-0 run that featured two kills by senior
Laura Boll and two aces by senior
Madison Forrest gave the Mules a 23-21 lead, but the Mustangs came back to go ahead, 25-24, and serve for the win.
Ray tie the set with a kill and then teamed with sophomore
Lauren Achey for a block to put Muhlenberg ahead, 26-25. Junior
Rebecca Shear finished off the set with one of her caree-high 8 kills.
Boll led the Mule attack against Morrisville with 12 kills and added 17 digs. Freshman
Caleya Tereska recorded a career-high 19 digs, and classmate
Emma Eglinton ended with 35 assists and a career-high 22 digs.Â
