Bunting's Career Day Leads Hopkins to a DH Split on Wednesday

Bunting Struck Out a Career-High 11 Batters in the Complete Game Win

GAME ONE
•  Score: Hopkins – 8, Bethel – 9 (10 inns.)
• Records: JHU (10-4) • Bethel (6-2)
• Location: Fort Myers, FL • Terry Park
• Pitching Decision: W- Matthew Bohlke (1-1) • L – Seamus Ryan-Johnson (0-1) • S – Connor Malcolm (1)
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team trailed 8-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth and rallied to tie the game at eight, however, Bethel got a run in the 10th and held the Blue Jays scoreless in the bottom of the frame to take the 9-8 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Hopkins got to the Royals early in the game, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first. Tim Kutcher led off the game with a single and advanced to second on an error. He then came around to score on another Bethel error on a Matthew Ritchie hit. Mike Eberle followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Bradley Parsons later walked to score Ritchie and make the score 2-0 and Pete Manny followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 ball game. James Ingram was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the fourth and final Hopkins' run of the inning.
• The Royals made it a one-run game in the third as sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double from Mitch Jerde made the score 4-3 Blue Jays.
• Johns Hopkins added a run in the fourth on an Eberle sacrifice fly to make the score 5-3 and then took a three-run lead in the seventh as Manny doubled and was pinch run for by Jack Walters who came around to score on an Adam Kohl single which made the score 6-3.
• The Royals scored five unanswered runs between innings eight and nine to take an 8-6 lead. Bethel tied the game in the ninth on an RBI single by Ty Kohen and then took the lead on a two-run single from Nick Wibben.
• JHU rallied in the bottom of the inning as Robby Faris worked a walk with one out and came around to score on an Ingram single to make it a one-run game. A sacrifice fly by Kutcher tied the game at eight, but Hopkins could not get the winning run across the plate as the two teams headed to extra innings.
• A sacrifice fly by Caleb Brant gave the Royals a 9-8 lead in the 10th and Hopkins was unable to tie the game in the bottom of the inning as the Royals came back to win the game 9-8.

Inside the Box Score
• Kohl and Ingram led Hopkins with two hits apiece while Ingram knocked in a team-leading two runs in the game.
• Ben Keever pitched 3.2 innings for JHU allowing four hits and striking out two.
• Six Royals had two hits in the game as they outhit the Blue Jays 12-9.

• The Short Story: Jack Bunting struck out a career-high 11 batters in a complete game victory over Denison on Wednesday afternoon as the Blue Jays defeated the Big Red, 2-1.

How it Happened
• The Big Red pulled out to an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Will Krushen. AJ King then threw out Max Lahn attempting to steal to end the inning.
•  JHU tied the game in the second as Jared deFaria came around to score from second on a throwing error by the Big Red catcher.
• Jack Bunting struck out the side in the second and King threw out two more base stealers in the fourth as Denison struggled to get any more offense against Bunting and the rest of the Hopkins defense.
• The Blue Jays got Bunting the lead in the fifth on a Kutcher RBI single to center which scored Ingram who singled to lead off the inning.
• Bunting cruised through the Denison lineup, allowing just two hits in the next four innings. The Red Devils finally got to Bunting in the bottom of the ninth as Ty Robinson was hit by a pitch with one out and Will Krushen singled to center to put the tying and winning runs on base with one out, Bunting then got Lahn to foul out to deFaria and then got Daniel Spencer to fly out to left to seal the 2-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score
• Bunting with the full nine for his fifth career complete game. He struck out a career-high 11 batters and surrendered just two walks while scattering five hits.
• Mikey Rivera pitched 4.2 innings out of the bullpen for Denison allowing just two hits, two walks and getting six strikeouts.
• Kutcher led Hopkins with two hits in the game.

What it Means
• JHU is now 5-3 all-time against Bethel and 3-0 against Denison.
• The Blue Jays are currently 3-2 on their spring break trip so far.
