Garnet Cap Year With Best Conference Finish Since 2011

SWARTHMORE, Pa -- Swarthmore College Field Hockey beat Haverford College 3-2 in its season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet (7-10, 3-7) honored seniors Lizzy Stant, Riya Garg, Kathleen Carmichael and Zelda Bank before the victory.

Swarthmore finished in seventh of 11 teams in the Centennial Conference regular season standings. That's the best finish for the Garnet since they also placed seventh in 2011. The team's 14 wins over head coach Hannah Allison's first two seasons are the most for the program in a two-year span since it won 17 in 2011 and 2012.

Carmichael as well as sophomores Ali Baratta and Chelsea Semper scored the Garnet goals on Saturday.

Baratta finished as the team leader with seven goals this year. Freshman Marion Carr, who had six goals in 2018, picked up the first assist of her career on Baratta's goal. During the 12th minute Baratta sent a corner to the top of the circle and set up near the left post to deflect Carr's shot into the cage.

Carmichael scored her third goal of the season and 15th of her career just 1:39 after Baratta's goal. She gave Swarthmore a 2-0 lead on a shot that was low and to the right.

Haverford tied the game on goals in the 19th and 21st minutes.

Semper, a defender, scored the first goal of her career during the 48th minute to eventually win the game for Swarthmore.

Senior goalie Zelda Bank made five saves in the win to finish her career with an astounding total of 435 saves.
