Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 8 Garnet Suffer Second Straight Heartbreaking Loss

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- No. 8-ranked Swarthmore College Men's Basketball lost 53-51 on Saturday at Tarble Pavilion as Franklin & Marshall College sophomore guard Justin Kupa drilled an off-balance three-pointer from well beyond the arc to hand the Garnet their second consecutive loss, both in similar fashion.

In Baltimore on Thursday night, Johns Hopkins handed the Garnet (4-2, 1-2) their first loss of the season by a score of 59-57, making a wacky lay up with under one second left to play.

Prior to Kupa's shot, Swarthmore sophomore guard Connor Harkins made a heroic shot of his own, giving his team a one-point lead with three seconds left on a baseline mid-range jumper off of an inbound pass from junior guard Cam Wiley.

Kupa's shot was also the product of an inbound pass, this one from around half court with just under two seconds left on the clock.

Swarthmore had a 21-20 advantage over the Diplomats (5-2, 2-1) at halftime and its largest lead was nine when they were up 31-22 with 14:29 remaining in the second half. Neither team led by more than four over the final 8:03 of the game.

Wiley stuffed the stat sheet on Saturday, scoring 17 points with seven rebounds and six assists on 7-of-12 shooting with just two turnovers.

The Garnet play at home again in their next game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Ursinus College.
