GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Powered by five individual victories, the Gettysburg College women's track and field team won its own Mason-Dixon Invitational for the third year in a row on Saturday at a sunny Musselman Stadium.
Competing in their lone home meet of the season, the Bullets beat out 10 other teams, including runner-up Dickinson (138). Frostburg State (104) and Division II Holy Family (87) rounded out the top-four.
Gettysburg earned three of its victories on the track, including
Sarah Rinehart (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Rinehart clocked a 12:05.77 and won by 26 seconds.
Sophomore
Hailey Moseman (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) followed up with a solid showing in the 800-meter run, prevailing among 25 runners with a personal record (PR) of 2:20.30. She finished over five seconds ahead of her nearest competitor while moving into fourth in school history in the event. It was her second 800 victory of the spring.
Senior
Sarah Congdon (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) added a win in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:05.30 – her top time of the season.
The Bullets also picked up two field event wins from a pair of seniors.
Mikaela Collins (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) defeated 32 competitors in the shot put with a PR of 41-2 1/4 while
Ellery Lyon (Sheldonville, Mass./King Philip) topped a field of 21 in the javelin with a heave of 121-6 – also good for a PR. Collins also placed second in the discus (114-9).
Senior
Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) added a runner-up showing in a field of 19 in the 100-meter dash (13.04). Junior
Danielle DeMichael (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) took second in the 800 (2:25.62), as did sophomore
Abigail Rec (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.94).
Congdon also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.25) while Lyon (high jump, 4-8 1/4) and Meredith (long jump, 16-7 1/4) added one fourth-place finish apiece. Also taking fourth were junior
Kiersten Dyhrberg (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) in the hammer (127-0) and freshman
Michelle O'Malley (Locust, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) in the 5,000-meter run (18:46.18).
Placing fifth were junior
Paige Wesolowski (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional) in the 400-meter dash (1:02.46) and Rec in the long jump (16-5). In addition, Rinehart placed sixth in the mile (5:31.35), as did junior
Elisabeth French (Westport, Conn./Staples) in the 800 (2:31.62).
Several Bullets will compete at the Penn Relays on Thursday before the rest of the team will gear up for the Centennial Conference Championships with Shippensburg's Paul Kaiser Invitational next Saturday.
