YORK, Pa. (Dec. 3, 2022) – Four Mariners reached the podium as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team competed in the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College of Pennsylvania Friday and Saturday. Three wrestlers placed fifth for USMMA – freshman
Wesley Wydick (Utica, Ohio) at 133, senior
James Cruz (Belleville, N.J.) at 197 and sophomore
Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) at 285 – while one other Mariner came in sixth place – sophomore
Eddie Pinc (Medina, Ohio) at 149.

Wydick went 4-2 with two pins en route to his fifth-place finish at 133, while Cruz also battled to a 4-2 record with one pin, one technical fall and one major decision to place fifth at 197. Reid was 3-2 with one pin at 285.
Pinc had the most wins on the day for the Mariners at 149, finishing in sixth place after going 5-3 with three falls.
Up next, the Mariners will travel up to New London, Conn., on Wednesday night, Dec. 7 to face arch-rival Coast Guard in their first dual meet of the season. Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. Any live links for the meet will be posted on
