Box Score 2 PASADENA, Calif.—No. 32 Swarthmore College Men's Tennis pulled off an impressive 5-4 win over the No. 11 Whitman College Blues on Thursday afternoon.
Swarthmore led 2-1 after doubles. John Lathrop and Thibault Vernier won 9-7 in second doubles, and Simon Vernier and Blake Oetting picked up the win 8-5 in third doubles.
Mark Fallati won the top-flight match 6-2, 7-6. Evan Han was up in the third set in fifth singles and ended up getting the win when his opponent retired.
The match score stood at 4-4 with all the marbles riding on sixth singles. Freshman John Lathrop won the first set of the deciding match 6-4 and completed the job 6-2 in the second set.
Swarthmore also had a second squad playing at Cerritos College on Thursday, but dropped that contest 8-1. The Garnet earned wins in fifth and sixth singles. Freshman Noah Cheng got the win in fifth singles 6-4, 7-5.
